Why your AI-built form isn’t sending emails

You asked an AI website builder or coding assistant for a website with a contact form. The form looks perfect. You fill it in, press Send, and nothing arrives. This is one of the most common problems with AI-built websites, and it’s quick to fix.

The short answer

The AI built the form, but nothing receives it. A form on a web page only collects what visitors type. Sending that data to your email needs a server that receives the submission and sends the message. Most AI-generated sites are static pages or front-end code with no server behind them, so the form has nowhere to go.

Signs you have this problem

  • Pressing Send reloads the page, shows an error, or appears to work but no email arrives.
  • The form’s action is empty, points to a page on your own site, or is missing.
  • The code calls an API route or email service that was never set up.

The fix: point the form at a form backend

A form backend is the missing server. FormDoc receives each submission, checks it for spam and emails it to you. You keep the form the AI made; you only change where it sends.

  1. Get an access key. Go to app.formdoc.dev/new, enter your email address and confirm it.
  2. Change the form’s action. Set action="https://api.formdoc.dev/v1/submit" and method="POST".
  3. Add your key. Add <input type="hidden" name="access_key" value="YOUR_ACCESS_KEY"> inside the form.
  4. Check the field names. Every input needs a name attribute, such as name, email and message. Fields without one aren’t sent.

You can also ask your AI assistant to make these changes: tell it to post the form to https://api.formdoc.dev/v1/submit with your access key in a hidden access_key field.

Add spam protection in one line

Add a hidden honeypot field that people never see but bots fill in:

<input type="checkbox" name="botcheck" style="display:none" tabindex="-1" autocomplete="off">

Test it

Publish the page, send yourself a message and check your inbox. If nothing arrives, confirm your email address first: until you do, submissions are refused. The FAQ covers the other common causes.
